About this ride

This is a two-hour, motor-assisted ride through Santader's old town, across the river bridges and into the city parks, covering about 22 km with roughly 300 m of gentle climbing. The pace is conversational, the stops are short, and the e-bike takes the effort out of the few rises along the way.

It works as a first-day orientation: you see how the old town, the riverside and the green spaces fit together, then you can decide where to spend the rest of your stay. Nobody needs to be fit, and mixed groups can ride together without anyone being left behind.

Unlike the gravel, road and multi-day tours on this site, this is the only city sightseeing ride. It is built around places rather than distance or climbing, so expect plenty of looking around and no training-style effort.

  • Two hours on an e-bike, about 22 km
  • Old town, river bridges and city parks in one loop
  • About 300 m of climbing, smoothed out by motor assistance
  • Conversational pace for mixed groups and first-day orientation

Who this ride suits

This is the easiest way to see Santader by bike. The motor evens out the roughly 300 m of climbing, so riders of different fitness levels can stay together, and the short two-hour format suits anyone who does not want a full day in the saddle.

It fits first-time e-bike riders, couples or friends with mixed abilities, and visitors on their first day who want orientation rather than exercise. If you want a hard workout or technical terrain, look at the road and gravel tours instead.

The route in detail

The ride starts in the old town, where narrow streets and historic squares are taken slowly and the guide can stop to explain what you are passing. From there it drops towards the river and links several of the river bridges, giving you views along the water from both banks.

The last part of the loop moves into the city parks, where paths are wider and quieter. Most of the 22 km is on city streets, riverside paths and park tracks rather than rough ground, so you do not need off-road skills.

Best time to go

Because the route is short and mostly in the open, it works at most times of year. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable for being outdoors for two hours, while in summer an earlier or later slot is cooler, if the partner offers one. The old town is usually calmer earlier in the day.

If rain is forecast, ask the partner about their weather policy before you book. Wear layers and bring sunglasses; the e-bike makes it easy to forget you are still exposed to sun and wind.

How it compares with other tours

The Santader greenway easy day is also relaxed, but it is a flat 40 km full day out to the coast on a car-free route. This ride is shorter, motor-assisted and entirely about the city itself.

The Riverside gravel intro near Santader is the beginner's step into unpaved riding, while this tour stays on paved and park surfaces. For many visitors, it makes a good first booking before a longer day elsewhere.
