Rivers shape the gentlest riding near Santader. In town, the Old Town E-Bike Ride crosses river bridges on a 22 km route. Outside, the Riverside Gravel Intro runs for 34 km on wide riverside tracks with about 250 m of climbing. Both are easy by our numbers, but they differ in surface: one is mostly paved and motor-assisted, the other is unpaved and pedal-powered. Choose the e-bike for sightseeing and the gravel intro if you want to try off-road riding without steep hills.
Riverside routes follow valley floors, so gradients stay low and navigation is simple. That makes them the usual first step for riders who have never used gravel tyres, and a relaxed option for groups with different fitness levels.
Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons in Catalonia, with milder temperatures. Summer middays are hot, though trees and water can help. After heavy rain, unpaved riverside tracks can be soft or muddy, so check conditions with the partner.
Both tours here are listed as guided experiences. The e-bike ride suits sightseeing with commentary, while the gravel intro is better for riders who want coaching on braking, cornering and tyre pressure on loose surfaces.
